Nero Lite updated installer

Last month I uploaded new builds to test some changes I made to the Nero Lite installer code to clean up the Automated Serial Entering code. Although the updated code worked in most situations, it was not reliable enough. I hope the new code works as good as it used to be.

Nero 7/8 Lite Build 1.17.2.2 changelog:
- Implement AutoItX dll calls (Automated serial entering)
- Improve filetype associations
- Fix Nero 7 English ProductSetup tool (Do you want to apply changes? prompt)
- Cleanup some temporary files after install
- Improve uninstall

You can download Nero 7 Lite here and Nero 8 Lite here.

serial provided on command line was not added to reg’s.
anyone could confirm / infirm this?

  3. Acheron on September 14th, 2008 16:04

Behavior confirmed. I’ll have to work on this issue again.

I have worked on fixing the automated serial entering code for current builds. I’m now waiting for the upcoming Nero 8.4 release which hopefully won’t break anything.

Nero 9 has some new features and a lot of additional software utilities. I noticed some new audio plugins which hopefully will also be included with Nero 8.4. So maybe we can finally get rid of the unsupported Mausau plugins. It’s a shame Nero didn’t update the audio plugins since Nero 5.

While testing a bit I could get the new flac support working in Nero 8!

P.S. I have decided not to work on Nero 9 Lite for now. I will continue bring out updates for Nero 7 Lite and Nero 8 Lite and their SDK, but no more new features will be added.

Acheron, can you explain how o build Lite/Micro distributive so we could build it like we do it with WinXP SP2/SP3 slipstream distributive.

I’d also like to add my thanks. I’ve been using your micro builds for quite a while now, and have to say that your efforts are invaluable. Keep it up :-)

When I start making a new compilation (CD or DVD) I always go to Dates tab to set a unique date for all of my files and a date of creation and modification of the volume. With your versions of Nero (Lite or Micro) the date/time I choose doesn’t change even if that flag is checked. Is it because there is missing a file or something in your distribution? Could you try to get a fix for this, please? Thanks. Anyway, I must congratulate you for all the work you do! Ciao!!!

    Hi

I’m a big fan of Nero Lite and I have been using it ever since I had to upgrade to Vista and N7 (from XP and N6).
You made Nero usable again, without all the services and indexing and multimedia bloatware.

    Thank you so much.

Please reconsider your view on Nero 9 support. While most of us can and will still use Nero 7 or 8 (8 doesn’t work for me, have tried countless official and unofficial Versions, always get “failed to create empty document”) there will be a point when there are unsupported devices with 7/8, or new devices behaving strangely. Then we all have to move to 9 and we are prepared thanks to you. :)

    Greetings!

  16. dypsis on October 17th, 2008 8:33

The only reason that I am still using Nero is because of Nero Lite/Micro.

I will stick with Nero 8 Lite for now.
If you decide to release a Nero 9 Lite, then of course I will be happy to use it.

I am hoping you do. :-)

    I have a problem with Windows Vista and Nero 8 Lite/Micro. I can’t burn audio CDs…

When i browse trough my mp3′s and select some and put it on the other frame nero brings an error and exits after click on ok.

i dont understand whats happen. Is it a bug under vista or nero8 lite?

  18. Dan on November 12th, 2008 18:43

Hi Acheron, did you say you’ve fixed the serial automation in the current build of Nero Lite? Can you confirm its still /SERIAL=”etc…”

    Cheers,
    Dan.

I had to laugh! I too have just been rebuilding XP, got to the point where I had to rebuild nero7 too and said “I wonder if someone has found an easier way”.
I was loading it up in a VM stipping the registry and repackaging with SetupX.exe and a homemade bat, with the reg and the bloatware/slowtoloadware. It was going great untill I started change options (using the full version).
So a ‘hats off’ to you and thank you. I hope you at least give some advice on Nero9 Lite cause I really don’t want to be cheating with a Thinstalled msi repackage ;) .

  21. dypsis on December 4th, 2008 9:58

I can understand your hesitation in working on Nero 9.

The number of people that I know who are having problems with it is astounding.

  22. Rama on December 9th, 2008 17:25

Hi, im using nero 8 micro, it makes nero really usable again…

But i have here a problem, i have a blueray burner, nero 8 support it, but if i burn a dvd-R with 8x or max speed, or 4x… anything other than 2x, it have always some errors after burning… if i burn with 2x, it works perfect, and if i burn dvd+R with max speed or 8x or anything, it burns perfect too, it happens only with dvd-R…

And the best thing is, with any other burn program, like cdburnerxp, or nero 7 micro, or nero 9 lite (torrent… there are some nero9 lites, but it’s greatest crap… not so great crap as nero9 full, but crap) :-)

So i hope for nero8.4 micro, or 9 micro… (i need only the burn program) :-)

  23. matt on December 22nd, 2008 16:31

I think the problem with building a Nero 9 lite/micro is that it’s ALL changed I used to extract the self extracting exe you get from the website and keep the files in a folder as then when you need to install it only has to run them rather than extract them all to temporary directories and make a mess.

Anyways inside nero9 to me it looks packaged a lot differently to 7 or 8 and I’m guessing when Nero 9 is finally a bit more stable (it is better since 9.2.6.0) he may try but these things take a lot of time to build to the point where they work properly. And I have seen portable versions of Nero 9 lite on portableappz.blogspot.com but for me I’d rather wait however long it takes for a PROPER build.

Also when using a micro version or lite version the differences with the burning ROM and Express are minimal because in Nero 9 they focused more on updating all the other apps I noticed new splash screen and icons but that’s about it.

Thanks on the new 8.2.13.0 its all working good.

    Matt

i think Nero 9 also forces you to use .net v3.5

maybe he doesnt want to mess around with something that requires you to install .net

    (just speculation on my part)

Ok, this used to be the best burning software out there, and it set the standard for many to follow. That was before, now, it is a different matter. It took me ages to install the program, and it used my memory like there is no tomorrow. I had a few problems with it, system freezes, disc errors, multiple system restarts to go back to normal. The burning engine itself is excellent, it gets the job done, but do not even think about using any other program while running this one, otherwise, you will have some issues. The only solution I found is helpful is to use a custom install option, and only install the burning software itself, without the other features that are bundled with it, cause for me those were the cause of the problem, where most of them start up when you boot, and they use system resource. In a nutshell, great burning software, if only it came without all the rest of the unnecessary things packed with it. I really hope the upcoming version goes back to the glory of the older versions, where the main focus is getting things done.

Hi, it sounds good and I am shure it works. I use winxp 64 . When I start the cmd there is no Nero detected. How can I manage that the installer will find it. Its under C: program Files (x86).
A short install helper with known probs would be helpful….
    Great work anyway…
